Junior, The Service Dog, Controversy
Junior, The Service Dog, Controversy. Just found out about this one: July 26, 2011: Seems that about a year ago or so, Millan got his dog Junior (replacement for Daddy) certified as a "Service Dog." Seems, I'm still researching this whole thing ) that this was done "illegally" through some bogus online service. Millan later claimed some 'invisible' disability ; apparently, Junior never trained or did anything to actually qualify for this certification as a 'Service Dog.' Everyone went ballistic about it; Millan Corp took down the proud announcement of this - and a pic of Millan with Junior & the certificate. The Millan Corp site than posted an apology and placed the blame on a mistaken blog posting by some low level employee. But this could not explain the pic of Millan posing with Junior & the certificate. Game then became: Millan Corp furiously trying to erase from the web all traces of this incident, and anti Millan Corp bloggers tracking down all remnants and posting links to what they could still find and save. Like I said, as of July 26 2011 when I first heard of this, I'm still checking on all of this.

Junior gets his Service Dog certification! Junior recently received his Service Dog certification from The United States Service Dog Registry (USSDR), an independent registry service that offers self-identification for Service or Assistance Dogs. "I'm so proud of Junior," Cesar said. "He's been an amazing helper to me and so many dogs, and now he can continue to share his balance with the rest of the world in his service." Do you think your dog has what it takes to be a Service Dog? Although not required by law, your dog should be trained to follow both specific and basic obedience commands, as well as display non-aggressive and sociable behavior in order to be considered an effective Service Dog. It is recommended that any potential Service Dogs undergo at least 120 hours of professional training to obtain the necessary skills and demeanor. USSDR suggests that every candidate complete the Public Access Test created by Assistance Dogs International, Inc, to fully assess your dog’s ability to function as a Service Dog. If you would like to learn more about how to register your Service Dog, check out the USSDR website here.
Seems that this took place in 2010

"As you know, on Dec. 15 the IAABC joined with other esteemed behavior organizations in a statement against Cesar Millan and the use of aversives in training. Millan was asked for comment or input before the release date and chose not to participate. What you may not know is that on Dec. 16 his people served all of us with a legal notification based on libel and threat to business, with the threat of lawsuit if each participant did not send out an immediate and public retraction of the "false statement, displayed in a prominent place" or otherwise advertised. We all had about 24 hours to seek legal counsel, discuss and vote on how to proceed. The choices were to withdraw from the statement publicly and print a retraction, or to join with those choosing to continue to participate in a counter offer to Millan and engage in whatever legal maneuverings and standoffs were to come. This was to take place in British court under the British legal system, with no direct legal representation of the IAABC's interests barring us hiring an international attorney."
